Allow me to disable rewind so it doesn’t take up space?

We don’t have any plans to do this at the moment; we could consider it in the future if there’s a use case for it, but currently it seems like the available solutions take care of the majority of situations we’re optimizing for. In even the largest projects I’ve worked on, a properly-managed .gitignore file keeps the .git directory below ~5% of the available disk space. Additionally increased disk space may be in the cards for a future update.
But we’ll definitely keep an eye on this to keep track of interest and use cases we haven’t considered.
