I have added a custom domain but it doesn’t work without www.
Is there a way to fix this?
When you added your custom domain to the Glitch project did you include the www? Additionally in your DNS CNAME record which points to your glitch project, did you apply the record to the apex domain or the www subdomain? Either of these two things could cause this sort of issue.

I think I’ve linked my domain to glitch with www. Do I have to get it removed and re-add without the www?
That’s a good place to start, you may not have to get it removed because technically www.domain.com is a different domain than domain.com. Try adding it and if Glitch gives you an error saying it’s already registered email support@glitch.com to get it removed and try again.

you can just add both of them, that way you can use either one, provided they’re both setup on your domain side
