Hi! I have had some trouble getting some of my projects (Jonah) popular. I have really stretched to make my projects high-quality with websites, repositories, and for Jonah, a discord server so people can get updates about it! However, I don’t get any traffic, anybody interested, or anything showing signs that people use it! So I want to know:
How have you gotten projects popular? I have been looking into things like “Product Hunt,” but do these things help?
I was watching a fireship video and spotted a friend’s artwork used as a meme
And I learned that this image is quite overused without crediting him. The lesson is that you never know what goes viral. But I also know that he is (or at least he was) active in open source communities like processing, and I guess continue producing and contributing to community work (not just coding but also making tutorials etc) is the only way to get recognized
all I know is to go from 0 to 1 user you can build something that someone literally asked for. and by the way you can’t do it the other way around by asking someone “would you use a …?” because they’ll say yes without any intention to actually use it
From my experience, it’s very hard to make a project popular actively. The only few projects I made that went popular are a chat and a physics simulator made by scratch (no frameworks). The chat was made popular by someone else using it, and the physics simulator is popular because another one is. Therefore, if you see something popular, make something similar to it; otherwise, you can only hope that someone will see it and promote it.
