Glitch Boosted with GitHub Student Pack

I recently applied to GitHub Student Pack and scrolled through the offers. I think it would be great for all the student developers out there to get Glitch Boosted or some other perks. Just a suggestion

Thanks for all the support guys!

I just hope that if this is implemented, this would not be more of a strain on Glitch’s servers.

This sounds like a nice idea that would more people to learn how to create 24/7 apps, especially with the recent temporary ban on pinging services.

Yeah most of us here might still be in school so we can’t pay for a vps. Adults who use glitch on the other hand can pay for a vps once the get some initial money

Hi there!
I just applied for the GH Student Pack (says it may take up to 4 days :man_shrugging:) and I think it would be a really great thing for GitHub and Glitch to collaborate to give some sort of deal or giveaway of Boosted Apps as students either have no money at all or a very tight on money and are just testing out working with web applications and don’t have much money to spend on hosting, etc.
Hope Glitch can add this,
Eddie

Glitch can learn more about adding their product to the GitHub Student Pack via this link: https://education.github.com/pack/partners and can apply via this form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSe0gSzgJtlsKJBvYjN2W1YXJ1KYB4XiVwWbFXJCagRbK0w95Q/viewform

Took only a day for me, although I was expecting 2 months. By the way, if you get an email from GitHub about the GitHub Student Pack, it means you’ve got the Pack. They’re not very clear in their email about whether you got the pack or not, like there’s no “You’ve got the pack, yaaay!!!”, all it says is “Check out the features of GitHub Student Pack” and a link to a few related websites, which means that you got the GitHub Student Pack. Also, don’t worry if you don’t get it, you can re-apply for it as much as you want.

I got it in 1 month so I’m guessing it will take 2-3 months unless you have an educational tld like .edu etc

Wow! I sure hope this becomes a thing!

Quick, keep posting so the thread keeps getting bumped. (but if you bump add context)

:eyes: i just can’t see how would be that good for glitch, as they are offering a paid feature for free, unless github pays (which i really doubt).

Otherwise a great idea and can’t wait to see it up

That is how the GitHub Student Pack works. Popular companies provide their services for free or for a discount. Like a free domain from namecheap.com.

It’s giving something to students who don’t have money so they may actually pay for your product in the future when they are no longer students (see https://education.github.com/pack/partners for more info)

I kind of agree With @ItsYanko. It kind of giving away “money” to students

It’s giving away a service. I ain’t getting no money. It’s a publicity scheme really to make you look good while also giving to students.

@idodev you should see the offers of the GitHub Student Pack, then you will understand.

Well if they are giving away a Service its kind of giving Money away. Just like a coupon.

It also might be considered donating to a cause for tax purposes. (Not sure how this works at all but maybe)

It is the same for all the other companies partnered with the GitHub Student Pack.
