Healthy social features

Hi team!

Glitch could give users the ability to:

  • Star or bookmark a project to look back at later (Remixing is currently the best way to do this)
  • Follow a user to see what they have made recently

However, I know these things can lead to unhealthy outcomes like popularity contests, burnout, demotivation and disappointment.

I gather (from what I see around me) that Glitch Inc. (congrats btw) is building a healthy-interaction-driven platform. So it excludes some of the toxic addictive factors that Twitter etc. give us.

I was wondering whether there is a balance you could strike to help us build communities and support one another, without becoming “who’s got the most stars”

Interested in your thoughts!!

Cheers :glitch:

I think we’ll have a solution to the bookmarking suggestion soon, so watch out for that! But you’re right, whenever you add a new social feature that often means creating a potential vector for abuse as well. This is something we’re keenly aware of so there’s a definite balance to be found. We’re actually hiring a Community Health Engineer (https://jobs.lever.co/glitch/b29ecb6d-143d-4356-83f8-30a16e2e4e4b) at the moment and their sole task will be thinking through these types of issues and we hope to stay ahead of the game here as we grow, rather than being reactive to issues.
