It would be nice if the log window had a “follow” mode. The way this should work is: if you’re scrolled all the way down, the log window should stay at the bottom of the log window, so that you’re always seeing the latest logs. If you scroll up to have a closer look at something that scrolled past, the log window should stop scrolling until you scroll all the way back down.
