ive released a Beta version of a web editor app called https://gravix.cloud which is designed to serve as an alternative to glitch once they shut down, currently only supporting static sites, but in the future, will support node apps, custom and automatic sub-domains. It is static at the moment
this looks very interesting!
looks really cool but i wish you had used the vs code ui or monaco
honestly, exams are the only thing holding me back rn, before summer, im going to add a bunch off features so we can keep that glitch vibe going, i have a tonne of nostalgia for this place, so replicating as much of it is my no.1 goal!
I’ve changed your post title because while creating web based editors is a ton of work, and super awesome, and 100% my reaction to losing project hosting too, you can’t refer to it as a “glitch.com editor”.
Of course, so sorry, i just wanted to put forward the idea of moving to another alternative. You can see where I’m coming from, I’m not trying to advertise this, just if people are in the same position as me and want something similar to glitch to hold on. But i do get the reasoning, so sorry!!
No worries, it’s a cool project, and I genuinely hope some folks here give it a go and see if it suits their needs. The web needs places where you can just make the web, on the web, using the web, and I’m no less annoyed that we’re losing one of those than anyone else. We need more of them O_O
How did you manage to allow creating new files and running scripts when the whole thing is static?
its just locally stored rn, im adding a backend soon for accounts, and project creation / deletion, file creation is capable just static
Are you able to please make this opensource on GitHub.com?
Potentially, i would just like to start a proprietary project, but at some point i will get some volunteers to help out, or as you mentioned publicise it.
At the momebt i just made it, so until it has a decent backend, its staying mostly concealed
i will say a platform like glitch is very not profitable and is extremely expensive and hard to maintain
good luck with the project but do keep that in mind
maybe you could make it something like a cloudflare pages wrapper, would be significantly easier than making your own infra
You are like the cloudfare fanboy
yes
