Silly questions: exact deadline and redirects

I’ve been toiling away getting my projects hosted on GitHub Pages and Render.com and CodePen and Replit. I may come down to the wire so I was wondering if it’s known yet what time on July 8th hosting will stop.

Relatedly, will we still be able to manage redirects (ie, change what URL Glitch redirects to for each foo.glitch.me URL) from our dashboard after July 8?

Next question: Currently there’s no ability to manage redirects for archived projects and I’m wondering if that means redirects don’t work for those.

Finally, just for organizational purposes, even though “archived” vs “active” won’t mean anything after July 8, will the dashboard still let us move projects between those sections?

Recap:

  1. Exact time of shutdown on July 8? (no worries if not yet known)
  2. Still possible to edit redirects after July 8?
  3. Do redirects work for archived projects?
  4. Can projects be freely moved between “active” and “archived” after July 8?

Thanks for the questions @dreev, let me double check some things and I’ll follow up soon!

  1. Exact time of shutdown on July 8? (no worries if not yet known)

Plan for hosting to end at midnight on July 8.

  1. Still possible to edit redirects after July 8?

The ability to set redirects will be supported until the end of 2025. Changing redirects after that date will not be possible, but redirects that are in place before that deadline will continue working until the end of 2026.

  1. Do redirects work for archived projects?

No, archived projects are not live so there’s no need to set a redirect.

  1. Can projects be freely moved between “active” and “archived” after July 8?

No, there will be no way to reactivate archived projects or archive live projects, after July 8.

I know that’s probably not what you were looking for, but July 8 is the date we’ll begin making significant changes to the infrastructure, and that’s why we’ve been asking folks to migrate off platform before then.

midnight for which time zone?

So when the day of July 8 ends, not when it begins? Oh yeah, and like @ribose asked, which timezone?

Makes sense. I’ve just been moving things between active and archived to help keep track of what I’ve migrated. Since that won’t be possible after July 8, I think I better err on the side of not archiving any project that there’s a chance I may want to create a redirect for.

I guess one more weird question: If I do set a redirect, am certain I won’t want to change it, and archive the project, will the redirect keep working? Probably I should just assume no to be safe.

12am eastern time on July 8 so when the day begins, you can expect hosting to go offline.

Technically it will work, but I’d suggest not archiving a project that you still want active. On July 8 you’ll no longer be able to archive projects or edit redirects on archived projects.
