Announcing Glitch In Bio, the easiest way to share your links!

Today, we are excited to share with you the latest from the Glitch lab: Glitch In Bio.

It’s unlike any other Glitch launch we’ve done before—we built a mobile-friendly, free, fully customizable landing page to use as your “Link in bio.” Learn more about it in our announcement on the blog to get started and see how you can share your own themes and extensions with the community!

Oh, and you can use the shortcut glitch.new/links to remix it instantly, too!

We can’t wait to see what you make with Glitch In Bio!

Nice, this was a good idea! I see a lot of folks using Link Tree and this is more customizable. I often point people to my portfolio site but sometimes I just want something simpler.

Also, on that playlist: Alex’s background images…wow. I need to work on mine  I like the gradient though.

This is awesome! I’m setting up my Glitch-in-Bio now and this is dope!

However, as a musician, my main places I’m trying to drive folks to are Bandcamp & Soundcloud. I noticed that you don’t have social iconography for either of those sites available. Is this the best place to request those? Thanks!

Hey welcome to the forum. I think it’s a good idea to request them. But for now if you wanted to add them to your page, Font Awesome does have those icons. Here’s soundcloud and Bandcamp. You can search for others. You don’t have to email them for a kit (they make it complex to try to get you to pay, which is annoying). Here’s a link to their CDN -

Oh, hi! :wave:t2:

So, I just put up my :link: :globe_with_meridians:, and I’ve kept track of a few small tweaks that might be interesting. Added a couple of social icons that are useful to me, made a custom theme, embedded a Twitter timeline, etc.

Nice work, friends: super easy to customize! :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: looking forward to seeing what others build, too!

edit I’m keeping a development diary / scratchpad in the NOTES.md file as I fiddle around with it. I also pushed it over to GitHub.

edit x DEV also wrote it up on DEV.to

Should anyone need it, I’ve just added a GitLab social icon to my remix (on top of absorbing the updates from the main template).

Oh nice thanks @andypiper :tada:

I’ve noticed my Glitch In Bio going to sleep, which is quite disappointing because with little mobile links, it needs to be quick to load. I didn’t realize that static web pages would also be subject to the subscription fee to keep them live. I know you guys need to make money but it wasn’t disclosed that this would need a subscription to keep the pages up =\

Hi @smilinggoat

The live side of a Glitch In Bio app should not go to sleep; regardless of if you subscribe to Glitch Pro. When you have a moment, can you please send us a support request so we can investigate this issue for you?

Just added the GitLab icon to the main Glitch in Bio app courtesy of @andypiper! :raised_hands:

If anyone else would like to add the icon to an existing Glitch in Bio remix:

  • Grab the markup from layout > social.html (you’ll want everything from {{#if settings.social.gitlab}} to its closing {{/if}} tag
  • Add a gitlab url in settings.json inside the social object

  • Add a hashnode url in settings.json inside the social object

Should be gitlab url

d’oh guess which other icon I added at the same time :see_no_evil:

Just closing the loop here. Turns out if you’re editing your site, it will sometimes show the “waking up” message if you view it before its fully saved I guess. The message as written made it seem like the whole project had gone to sleep.

A few updates we just made to Glitch in Bio…! :ferris_wheel:

  • New social icons including Cohost,Tumblr, and more from community contributors :raised_hands:t2:
  • Social sections are now alphabetically ordered (that list is getting long lol) :abc:
  • Added step in README showing how to make your links verified for sharing on social media sites (tldr add rel="me" to the anchor tag in layout/social.html) :white_check_mark:

Wait… You don’t have a Glitch Support Forum icon!

Cool!

Mastodon!

I actually haven’t looked too closely at the glitch in bio project for a while. One thing that looks interesting to me is this header that pops up.

Would there be any chance for glitch to support this outside of their official projects, like allow linking files in the README.md of the files? Of course letting a user control a banner in the editor might be dangerous since it could be used for social engineer e.g. "Your glitch account has been compromised, click here to reset password. "

But generally this would make READMEs a bit nicer to use

Ahh great idea, although am not sure how we’d distinguish the icon from the main Glitch profile one – wouldn’t it be great if they were connected… :grinning:
