Goodbye private projects

Like a limit with the project hours -

Yeah I’d hate to lose glitch, glitch has some really unique stuff unlike the platforms above

  1. Shared pnpm store, less package downloading, less copying because it just links packages
  2. Auto-reload that detects when you stop typing for a while
  3. Built in formatter, I lost count of how many times I’ve pushed that button in a project
  4. Google docs style collaboration. repl has similar but it sometimes makes your code weird and what you see in the editor isn’t what actually is in the project. Reload usually fixes the repl issue
  5. Collections of projects, I believe repl has folders though.
Also I use glitch more than repl because it’s design is slightly more clean

Glitch also doesnt censor code. PHP on replit is awful, they remove stuff like libcurl and disable IP headers. Not sure why they do it as it’s quite easy to bypass.

Agreed, Glitch needs to market this more as Glitch really isn’t designed for 100 sever bots and high traffic sites.

yeah, nice mockup!

It would be nice for Glitch to have a special editor for Discord bots where you put in your token, then it limits the amount of servers.

that means that free users cant make any new private projects?

At this point, all I can say is:
I’m lucky I migrated.
Also, I would like to recommend https://ide.goorm.io
It’s a nice IDE that comes with root access AND is pretty strong. And the pro plan gives better specs than glitch and is cheaper.
Seriously, though. MIGRATE WHILE YOU CAN.
(They do have URLs and custom run commands, another pro!)

I do wish this change would happen after Glitch became a little bit cheaper because to be honest, I don’t think many people here can afford $96 to $120 a year (USD).

Are we all forgetting what Glitch is about? Damn near everyone is mad because there are no private projects for free. Glitch is not a hosting platform, it is a place to grow and learn. There are so many ways to protect your code. Making your project private is not the only way.

Nah, they’ve said so themselves that they are a hosting platform.

The most innovative, powerful collaborative platform for creating, remixing and hosting apps.

(emphasis added)

By the way, here’s another point they raised in that post:

An effort to make the web into a creative medium where everybody expresses themselves and owns their work.

An important part of ownership is controlling access to that property, and I think that’s particularly true of abstract things like intellectual property. It was a nice time when Glitch worked to broaden who could build and own their own creations on the Web. Incidentally I did make several projects on Glitch public, and I felt empowered for being allowed to make that decision myself. I’m gonna miss that.

nope
